Our history in higher education has spanned more than 70 years, originating from the foundation of the Toyo Women's School of Dentistry in 1926. Founded in 1992, Toyo Gakuen University now has over 2,000 students, and is comprised of two faculties and three departments: the Department of International Communication and the Department of Human Sciences in the Faculty of Humanities, and the Department of Business Administration in the Faculty of Business Administration.
Each department strives to embody our mission to foster and send forth forward-thinking young people into the global society, imbued with the values of "internationalism," "humanity" and "sociality," each of which not only characterizes a respective department but is also intertwined with the others in our educational approach. Bearing these watchwords in mind, we aim at maximizing each individual student's potential by providing them with an educational environment in which they can enhance their strengths as whole person.
Naomichi Ichinowatari received his Ph.D. in psychiatry from Keio University School of Medicine. He was Associate Professor at the University of the Ryukyus, Professor and later President of National Defense Medical College, until he joined Toyo Gakuen University as President in April 2003.
