Department of International Communication

Selected Courses

In keeping with the Faculty of Humanities' goal of nurturing people with intelligence, sensibility and the skills necessary for workers in 21st century society, the Department of International Communication utilizes Toyo Gakuen's long tradition of foreign language education to prepare our students to be able to take active roles in the global arena. Students start by securing basic skills in foreign languages, and then move quickly to practical applications - especially in the concrete form of meeting nationwide licensing and qualification standards.

In our balanced curriculums that combine both liberal arts and professional education, the department offers an environment where students acquire the knowledge and skills for taking on positions as officials of NGOs and NPOs, tour guides, language teachers, translators, editors, public relations officers, information technology specialists, entrepreneurs, and business executives.

The Department offers five programs:

I. Global Studies Program
Students acquire a broad range of knowledge and the ability to view Japan from a global perspective.
II. Language Education Program
Students prepare to become teachers of English for young children and junior and senior high school students. Certifications for teaching Japanese to foreigners can also be acquired through this program.
III. English Language Program
Students acquire advanced communication capabilities in English, thereby gaining the skills and knowledge required for becoming a translator or interpreter.
IV. Information and Media Program
Students learn different styles of expression for transmitting information through media such as film and print, while honing their skills in computer usage.
V. International Business Program
Students prepare to participate in the global business society by engaging in various types of training in marketing, accounting, and management.
